Adon Adapts Well To Supersport, Takes Third In Season Opener

Adon Davie has finished fifth and third in his first two races of 2023.

Moving up to the British Supersport championship, where he is campaigning a Ducati Panigale V2 for JDF Racing in the Supersport Cup, Adon strung together two solid races, improving throughout the weekend at the Silverstone National circuit in what was only his first dry track time since the end of the 2022 season.

It was a weekend of firsts for Adon who had never raced in Supersport, never raced over distances as long and never raced on Supersport slick tyres.

Learning throughout, the Scottish teenager showed a great maturity from the opening Free Practice session on Friday until the final chequered flag on Sunday. Narrowly missing an overall top twenty finish in Race 2 yesterday, Davie leaves Silverstone with a clear direction and optimism for the next round at Oulton Park in three weeks.

Adon Davie:

“I was seventh in the Supersport Cup qualifying, which was not where I wanted to be, but we weren’t too far away – the other ‘cup’ competitors were all very close in terms of time. We used a scrubbed tyre and then changed to the new one, but we possibly went a bit too early. We are still learning; this was our first Supersport qualifying session and overall, I was happy with the progress we had made. Race 1 was a bit of a leap into the unknown as not only were we still chasing the ideal setup, but it was also the longest race I had ever ridden. I made a good start and was closing in on the group fighting for second in the cup towards the end of the race, but the red flag came out. Nevertheless, it showed my fitness was up to scratch and gave me a lot of confidence. I finished fifth and was happy to get the first race of the year under my belt. We tried a change in morning warm up which didn’t work and so we went back to what we had used in the first race. I started a bit higher on the grid and with the race being twenty-five laps it was another case of riding into the unknown in some ways, especially with tyres and if I had to manage them. Apart from a bit of arm pump the pace was consistent until the end. I was running third and at the flag was only 0.8s from the two in front at the flag. We now know what we are up against and how much we need to learn as a team and from me as a rider. We have taken some solid points and I am looking forward to the next one at Oulton in a few weeks.”
